My Story: Finding My Triumph Through Delight

My journey with C-PTSD as a result of my own trauma after being trafficked taught me an unexpected truth: real healing doesn’t come from reliving past pain or simply working to “let go.”

Instead, I found the key to my own transformation through moments of joy that reconnected me to life itself. I realized that focusing on delight allowed me to gently shift my attention from what hurt me to what healed me.

With each small experience of joy, I felt my inner strength return, my confidence begin to restore itself and my perspective on the past began to shift. 

For years, I spent too much time in anger, bitterness, and living as a shell of myself – with the most unlikely triggers setting me off into desolation and deep-seated shame. However, as I explain in my book, DELIGHT: The Enlightened Path to Transforming Your Life, Effortlessly – I discovered what really gave me strength and resilience during the months I was held captive, locked in a tiny alcove hidden behind a door, naked and isolated after being tortured.

It was remembering my daughters’ smiles, their joy, their effortless delight and it gave me an unending resolve that no matter what, I would find my way back to them. 

Even after that time I spent in terror, it took a long time to heal. But over time, I noticed that these moments of delight weren’t distractions but were actually creating a source of strength and resilience within me.

Each day I engaged with what brought me joy, I felt less weighed down by the memories of trauma. Instead, my experiences of pain began to feel like teachers rather than chains that bound me to a past that tortured me. 

This was the foundation of my triumph – of liberating myself from my past — discovering that delight and resilience were the keys to transforming my life and my mission in life, my Mission I’mPossible – is guiding others to do the same and leaving them in a better energetic space than they come to me.

Client Case Study: Mark’s Journey from Self-Doubt to Confidence and Resilience

One of my clients, Mark, faced a deep-seated sense of self-doubt that had developed from years of feeling unheard and unseen – even as a child.

His trauma had left him with a lingering belief that he wasn’t “enough” in the eyes of others or himself. Together, we started working with the Law of Delight, introducing small, consistent practices that helped Mark reconnect with what brought him true joy.

Resilience is often defined as the ability to bounce back from adversity, but through the Law of Delight, we come to understand resilience as the capacity to expand beyond adversity.

I do not teach you to ignore or invalidate your painful life experiences; instead, I teach you to discover the gift in the center of the experience that offers you a new anchor—a focus on what empowers you, brings light into your lives, and reveals your innate inner strength  to thrive.

The journey to resilience through delight is about building a new relationship with ourselves.

Rather than allowing trauma to define us, we begin to see ourselves as co-creators, capable of choosing our focus and shaping our experiences.

No, this isn’t about victim blaming or shaming. I did NOT create the trauma or the captor that held me against my will. Many times, there are circumstances or situations that overtake us where we must learn to let go of control and focus ourselves on what we CAN change. 

As co-creators, if we are not aware of our ability and power, another will usurp it and force us to confront ourselves – our shadow side – to stare into the abyss and deeply question. But this isn’t about blame shifting or victimizing yourself. 

It’s about asking yourself the question: “NOW WHAT? Ok, so this happened, but will I allow my past stories to rule over my life, continue to own me and victimize me or will I take back my power to create something more magnificent and beneficial as a result of this experience?”

You do not have to remain a slave to your past. I am living proof of this, my dear. 

Delight encourages us to stay open to the unexpected joys of life, creating a natural, heart-centered resilience that allows us to approach challenges with curiosity and strength.

 

Client Case Study: Sarah’s Transformation from Trauma to Purpose

Sarah came to me feeling disconnected from her purpose and weighed down by a history of trauma that had left her struggling with deep-seated anxiety and self-doubt. None of the anxiety meds worked for her, and instead caused her more side effects and lasting issues. I was a last resort for her. 

My first question for her was “OK, Now What? Are you going to continue living in victimhood and allowing this past of yours to enslave you and hold you prisoner, or are you ready to let go of these chains that bind you and embrace a new way of living and being? The choice, is always yours.”

She said, “YES. I am drawing a line in the sand and making a declaration and commitment to myself.”

As we began exploring the Law of Delight, we shifted her focus from her past experiences to her present joy.

I taught her how a broken heart has no coherence, and its critical she focuses on healing her heart, first, then reconnect with the smallest things that brought her joy. 3 things she could taste, touch, smell, see, feel, and hold. Every single day. 

This wasn’t about ignoring her trauma but about creating a new pathway forward that helped her heal her broken heart and felt expansive and light.

We started with a “delight journal,” where Sarah recorded anything she enjoyed, even small moments like feeling the warmth of the sun or reading a chapter in a favorite book, then reconnecting with her joy of painting abstract works of art.

Over time, she noticed a pattern: the more she connected with these moments, the more her anxiety eased, and her need for a sense of purpose became clearer.

Sarah discovered that her delight was a guide, leading her toward creative projects that inspired her. Her journey became one of resilience, as she saw that even painful experiences were simply chapters in a story she was empowered to rewrite.

Then we embarked on two journeys together – how to discover her unique Mission I’mPossible and how to embrace the Law of Delight on a deeper more profound level. 

In less than 6 months, Sarah became totally focused on creating messages through her newfound joy in creating auric portraits and teaching others how to channel messages into their own art work.

Heart-centered delight acts as an anchor, allowing us to approach each day from a space of inner peace and empowerment, regardless of external circumstances. This practice also heals the broken or wounded heart, which holds onto trauma far longer than our brain does. It is critical we heal the heart first – in order to heal our mind.

    Resilience can be built through daily practices that bring small moments of joy into our lives. These rituals act as pathways, grounding us in a state of joy that naturally builds resilience. Simple acts like a morning tea ritual, a daily walk, some small act of creation or journaling  provide consistency and stability, making it easier to access resilience when faced with challenges.

  4. Transform Pain by Recognizing It as Your Part of Growth & Expansion
    The Law of Delight teaches us that every experience, even painful ones, contributes to our growth. By focusing on delight, we give ourselves permission to view trauma as a catalyst for expansion rather than a limitation. Just as the Fibonacci sequence in nature follows a path of ever-expanding growth, so too can we allow delight to guide us in transforming past wounds into stepping stones for a brighter, more empowered future.

 

Steps for Transforming Trauma into Triumph Through Delight

  1. Identify Your Delight Anchors
    Choose one or two activities that consistently bring you joy, such as listening to music, being in nature, or creating art. Make these activities part of your daily life, allowing them to act as “delight anchors” that keep you grounded in joy and connected to your heart.

  2. Create a Journal
    In your journal, write down moments of delight, growth, and resilience each day. The Law of Delight Journal includes prompts designed to help you track and cultivate joy. Over time, this practice builds an internal foundation of strength, reminding you that even small acts of joy contribute to your journey of transformation.
