How to Be More Confident: Stand in Your Inner Authority

How to Be More Confident: Stand in Your Inner Authority

Here is how to be more confident: anchor your confidence in your inner authority, the part of you that knows who you are no matter what anyone says, and then prove it to yourself through small acts of courage every day. Real confidence is self-trust in motion. It grows from the inside out, and it is already present in you, beneath every layer of doubt.

I learned this in the hardest possible way, dear one. So let me share the moment my own confidence was tested to its root, what I found underneath, and a practice that lets you begin feeling it today.

What Confidence Really Is

Picture someone you think of as truly confident. What do you notice?

Usually it is a kind of ease. They speak without rushing. They hold eye contact. They can say “I don’t know” without shrinking. They can hear “no” and stay whole.

That ease comes from one place: they trust the ground they stand on. And the ground is themselves.

The word confidence comes from the Latin confidere, to have full trust. Confidence is full trust in your own being. It is the quiet knowing that you can meet what comes, learn what you need, and stay true to yourself along the way.

Loud bravado is often confidence’s opposite wearing a costume. Real confidence can be very quiet. It lives in the body as steadiness, warmth and a sense of having room to breathe.

And here is the heart of what I teach. Your soul carries a natural inner resonance I call delight. It is already present, unique as your thumbprint. When you are connected to it, confidence arises on its own, because you are standing in who you truly are. Doubt, fear and conditioning are layers over that resonance. Confidence grows as those layers clear.

The Day a Doctor Told Me I Would Never Walk Again

In 1998, a doctor looked at me and told me I would never walk again.

He was the expert. He had the charts and the scans. Every voice of authority around me agreed with him. My Tiny Mind, the part of me devoted to fear and survival, agreed with him too. It was ready to accept that sentence as my future.

But something deeper in me did not agree. It was very quiet. It was not a plan or an argument. It was simply a knowing in my Giant’s Heart: this is not my story.

That was the first time I truly understood the difference between outer authority and inner authority. Outer authority had spoken. Inner authority held a different future, and I chose to trust it.

I walk today.

I share this with you because confidence is born in exactly these moments. Moments when the world says one thing and your soul knows another, and you choose to stand with your soul. Every time you do, your confidence deepens, because you learn that your inner knowing is real and reliable. You can read more of this story in what being told I would never walk again taught me.

Why You Lack Confidence

If confidence feels out of reach, there is always a reason, and it is never that something is wrong with you.

You learned to look outside for approval. Many of us were raised to measure our worth by grades, praise, or how pleased the adults around us seemed. When approval becomes the measure, confidence becomes fragile, because it depends on other people’s moods.

Your intuition was overruled. When your feelings were dismissed as a child, or when you overrode your own knowing as an adult and paid for it, you learned to doubt your inner voice.

A painful experience left a clause behind. A failure, a rejection, a betrayal. In its wake you may have quietly decided, “I am not someone who can do that.” That decision keeps running until you rewrite it.

The loop feels familiar. People can become addicted to so-called negative emotions. I call this Negative Energy Addiction. Self-doubt becomes a familiar feeling, and the body keeps returning to what is familiar.

Each of these is a layer. The confidence beneath them is intact. If doubt is the loudest voice you hear, how to overcome self doubt takes you deeper into clearing it.

Can Confidence Be Learned?

Yes. Absolutely yes.

More precisely, confidence can be remembered. It is your natural state, and it returns through practice. Your nervous system learns from evidence. Each small act of courage is a piece of evidence that you can meet life and be fine. Stack enough of those pieces and your body starts to believe it.

This is why confidence grows in small steps far more than in grand gestures. Speaking up once in a meeting. Sending the email you have been avoiding. Wearing the outfit you love. Saying “no, thank you” kindly and meaning it. Each one is a quiet vote for yourself.

The fourth step of my DELIGHT Roadmap is Inspired Intuitive Action. It is the bridge between knowing and doing. Confidence lives on that bridge. You sense the right step, you take it, and you discover you were capable all along. Learning how to trust yourself again is the foundation that makes each step feel safe.

I have watched this unfold for clients many times. One client went from minimum wage to a six-figure business in under six months. Another, Randi, went from employee to owner of Sacramento Belly Fit after one private session. In both cases, the outer leap began with an inner one: a moment of deciding to trust who they were.

Practice: The Inner Authority Anchor

Do this today, ideally in the morning. It takes about five minutes.

  1. Stand tall. Feet hip-width apart, shoulders soft, chin level. Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly.
  2. Breathe into your center. Take five slow breaths, letting each exhale be longer than the inhale. Feel your feet on the ground.
  3. Recall a moment of courage. Remember one time you did something brave, however small. Let your body feel it again: the posture, the breath, the warmth afterward.
  4. Speak your anchor. Say aloud: “I trust who I am. I can meet what comes.” Say it three times, slowly, and notice where your body lifts.
  5. Choose one brave act. Decide one small act of courage for today. Something that stretches you gently. Then do it before evening.

Before bed, acknowledge it. “I did a brave thing today.” That moment of acknowledgment is how your nervous system files the evidence. Do this for thirty days and notice who you have become. If you want daily support, the free Believe in Yourself in 30 Days program pairs beautifully with this practice.

How to Be Confident and Love Yourself

Confidence and self-love grow from the same root.

Self-love says, “I am worthy as I am.” Confidence says, “I can meet what comes.” When you love yourself, mistakes stop feeling like proof that you are unworthy. They become simply part of learning. And when mistakes feel safe, you take more risks, and every risk you take deepens your confidence.

Notice, too, how confidence feels in the body when it comes from self-love. It feels warm. Confidence that comes from proving yourself feels tight, like holding your breath. One lasts. The other exhausts you. When you notice that tight, proving feeling, pause and put a hand on your heart. Remind yourself that you are already enough before you say a single word.

So be kind to yourself in the hard moments. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you adore. If you stumble, say, “That was hard, and I am still proud of myself for trying.” That one sentence protects your confidence more than any affirmation.

How to love yourself more and how to improve self worth go deeper into this root. When your worth is secure, confidence has solid ground to grow from.

Tools to Strengthen Your Confidence

I have created two free gifts specifically for this.

The Unstoppable Confidence Audios are short guided recordings you can listen to in the morning or before a moment that asks for courage. They take you into your body and back to your inner authority in minutes.

The 50 Questions to Your Unstoppable Best Self is a set of questions that brings you face to face with who you are and who you are becoming. Many people find that answering them clears doubts they did not even know they carried.

And when you are ready to turn confidence into creation, my guide on how to manifest shows you how to direct that steady energy toward the life your soul desires. Confident people create faster, because they move without months of second-guessing. You can go even further with how to become unstoppable.

Questions You May Be Asking

How do I become more confident?

Anchor your confidence in your inner authority, then take one small act of courage every day. Each brave act is evidence your nervous system learns from. Over weeks, those small acts add up to a steady, natural confidence.

How do I be confident and love yourself?

Treat yourself with kindness, especially when you stumble, and speak to yourself as you would to someone you adore. Self-love makes mistakes feel safe, and when mistakes feel safe you take more risks. Each risk strengthens your confidence.

Why do I lack confidence?

A lack of confidence usually comes from learning to seek outside approval, from having your intuition overruled, or from a painful experience that left a silent belief behind. These are layers over your natural confidence. As they clear, your confidence returns.

Can confidence be learned?

Yes. Confidence is your natural state, and it returns through practice. Small acts of courage, repeated and acknowledged, teach your body that you can meet life and be fine.

Stand in Who You Are

The confidence you are looking for already lives in you. It is the steady knowing beneath every doubt, the voice that says “this is who I am” when the world says otherwise.

Stand with that voice today. Take one small brave step. Then another tomorrow. This is how you come home to your own power.
