Fear can stop you at the edge of everything you want. It can shrink your world, quiet your voice and keep your dreams on a shelf. And fear can also be transformed into one of the strongest motivators you will ever know. I am living proof. Here is how to release fear spiritually, so it loosens its grip on your body, your mind and your future.
This teaching comes from the fear chapters of my book Manifest Your Dreams: “Are Your Fears Based in Reality?”, “The Fear Effect”, “Do You Choose Fear?” and “Fear-Releasing Exercises,” along with teachings from The Law of Delight. In this guide you will learn what F.E.A.R. really means, the spiritual root of fear, what fear does in your body, where fears come from, how to release fear from the body and daily spiritual practices that turn fear into courage.
What Does F.E.A.R. Mean?
I often tell my clients and students that FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. The vast majority of what we fear never comes to pass. Our minds fill the unknown with imagined dangers and then treat them as fact.
This acronym is a powerful reminder. Fear presents evidence that feels completely convincing. When you look closely, much of that evidence turns out to be borrowed from the past or invented by an anxious imagination.
Are Your Fears Real?
Yes and no. You may fear something that is unlikely to happen, and the fear itself is still very real and extremely powerful. Fear can take the wind out of your sails faster than any challenge. It can stop you in your tracks, drain your confidence and dissolve your hopes.
So honor the feeling. It is real. And question the story it tells. That combination, honoring and questioning, is the beginning of release.
What Is the Spiritual Root Cause of Fear?
Spiritually, fear grows from a sense of separation: separation from your Inner Divine Self, from Source and from your own infinite resources. When you feel disconnected, the world seems dangerous and you seem small within it.
Your Inner Divine Self knows its fullness and its unlimited power. It feels whole, safe and content right now. Each time you reconnect with that part of you, fear loosens. This is why spiritual practices that bring you home to yourself are so effective for releasing fear.
The Fear Effect: What Fear Does in Your Body
Fear begins in the mind and lands in the body. The fight, flight or freeze response can:
- Pump adrenaline through your body
- Speed up your heartbeat and slow your digestion
- Make your breathing shallow and quick
- Make you sweat
- Bring on waves of panic
When danger is real, this response protects you. In most moments of everyday fear, the danger lives only in the mind, and the body still pays the price. You can even grow accustomed to the rush, which is why fear can feel strangely familiar. Releasing fear spiritually always includes releasing it from the body.
Do You Choose Fear?
Fear is a natural human feeling. How much power you give it is your choice. Imagine the strides you could make if the energy you spend on “what ifs” went toward your dreams. Each day you can acknowledge your fear, honor it and take a step anyway. Every step reduces its hold.
Where Your Fears Come From
Most fears trace back to three sources:
- Childhood experiences, even ones you have forgotten, such as being bitten by a dog or called stupid at school.
- Observations, such as watching someone you love lose a job or a relationship.
- Beliefs you absorbed, such as “rich people are greedy” or “relationships always end.”
You can trace any fear to its root with the nine-step method in my guide to overcoming fear of failure spiritually.

Worry Is a Practice
Here is something most of us were never taught: worry is a practice. So is dread. Every time you rehearse a frightening “what if,” you strengthen that pathway, and over years you become remarkably skilled at it. Much of the exhaustion people feel comes from practicing fear all day.
The good news is that any practice can be replaced. The same energy you spend rehearsing what could go wrong can be redirected toward joy, solutions and inspired action. You can start today, one “what if it goes beautifully?” at a time.
Strategies for the Fears That Stop Us Most
Fear of lack of support
Sometimes we fear no one will stand behind our dreams. This fear may be unfounded, or it may carry some truth. Find out:
- Talk to the people you want support from. Share what you are creating and what kind of support you desire.
- If they respond positively, set shared goals together so they feel part of your journey.
- If they hesitate, ask why. Often their own fear is speaking. Sometimes they see something worth considering, such as a skill to strengthen first.
- Choose your path: act on their advice, find a compromise, demonstrate your readiness or find a new circle of support.
Once everything is out in the open, the fear shrinks, because you now know where you stand.
Fear of the worst case scenario
The biggest “what if” of all can freeze anyone. Bring it down to size:
- Stack the odds in your favor. Research, strengthen your skills, gather support, set clear goals and start with small, achievable steps.
- Prepare a recovery plan. If the worst happened, what would you do next, and how long would it take to regroup?
- Weigh the risk with the reward. Is a more fulfilling life worth the risk of a temporary setback? Very often, it is.
With the odds stacked and a plan in place, you move forward feeling steady.
My Own Journey Through Fear
After surviving abduction and trafficking, I lived for years feeling unsafe in the world. For a long time, the thought of opening up to anything new felt like it might annihilate me. I know fear in my body, deeply.
I also know it can be transformed. Step by step, I learned to become a loving, trusted partner to myself. I learned to return to delight, even for a few seconds at a time. Today the same energy that once froze me fuels my courage. Your fear can transform too.
How to Release Fear From the Body
Breathe slowly and deeply
Fear shortens the breath. Slow, deep breathing tells your body it is safe. Try breathing in for four counts and out for six.
Move
Dance, walk, stretch or shake out your hands and legs. Movement discharges the energy fear stores in your body.
Use your voice
Hum, sing or speak an invocation out loud. Your voice moves energy and reminds your body of its power.
Ground yourself
Stand barefoot on the earth, feel your feet, hold something warm. Grounding brings you back into the present, where you are safe.
Release through what you love
Journaling, painting, exercise and any activity that relieves tension all move fear out of the body. Delight is one of the most powerful releases there is.
How to Release Fear Spiritually: Daily Practices
Speak invocations
Invocations, spoken with your whole body and full feeling, call your power forth. These come straight from my book:
- I control ME.
- I have ALL the power here.
- I am the truth, and I embrace my power to create and live freely!
- I am fully delighted with me and my life!
- I have everything inside of me to thrive!

Meditate
Guided meditation can melt stress and fear at the end of a day and strengthen you at the start of one. The practice below is from Manifest Your Dreams.
Return to your Inner Divine Self
Place both hands on your heart and say: “I am Divine. I am Divine Love and Divine Light. I am divinely guided. I feel whole and safe right now.” Feel the words land.
Do what scares you, one step at a time
You discover how much power fear has over you only by facing it. If public speaking frightens you, start by talking to a stranger. Then stretch a little further. As one fear dissolves, others often loosen with it.
Common Mistakes When Releasing Fear
- Burying it. Pushing fear down keeps it alive underneath. Acknowledge it, feel it and then release it.
- Waiting to feel fearless. Courage is acting while some fear remains. Take the step with the feeling present.
- Leaping too far, too fast. Giant leaps can overwhelm your system and confirm the fear. Small, steady steps teach your body safety.
- Feeding it with media. Constant news and doom scrolling keep fear switched on. Choose what you take in with care.
- Going it alone. Sharing your fear with someone you trust often shrinks it instantly.
Living in the Moment Dissolves Fear
Most fear is a story about something that has not happened. When you bring your full attention into this moment, the breath, the light, the sounds around you, fear loses much of its fuel. Living in the moment is one of the most practical fear-release tools there is. Each moment is precious, and when you immerse yourself in it, there is little room left for dread.
Fear and the Law of Delight
Delight is the most powerful creative force there is. It is also one of the fastest ways to dissolve fear. You cannot be fully delighted and fully afraid in the same moment. When you choose one small delight, a song, a scent, the laughter of a child, your body relaxes, your breath deepens and your attention returns to the present, where you are safe.
This is why I teach that delight is your entire mission. From that state, everything else becomes easier, including facing what once frightened you. Delight lives fully in now, where you are safe.
Signs Your Fear Is Releasing
- You notice fear sooner and recover faster.
- Your breath stays deeper in challenging moments.
- You catch yourself thinking “what if it goes beautifully?”
- Situations that once froze you now feel manageable.
- You take brave steps more often, with less hesitation.
- You sleep more peacefully.
Fear in Everyday Life
Fear in love
If you fear being hurt again, honor that protective part of you. Then cultivate the qualities you desire in a partner within yourself first, and let trust grow one small step at a time.
Fear around money
If money fear keeps you awake, prepare one simple plan that would steady you, then focus on money as a neutral tool for creating and sharing delight.
Fear of being seen
If visibility frightens you, start small: one post, one conversation, one share. Each moment of being seen and surviving teaches your body that you are safe.
A Client Story: Courage Grew From One Small Delight
My client Samantha arrived in the middle of a painful divorce, lost in a fog of heartache.
We started small. I asked her to keep a joy-filled appreciation diary for a week, writing only the moments she appreciated and enjoyed. Each entry pulled her a little further out of fear and into the present. As her inner steadiness grew, so did her courage. She found the courage to have an honest, heartfelt conversation, and their painful divorce became a peaceful co-parenting friendship. Fear did not vanish all at once. It loosened, entry by entry, delight by delight.
Practice: The Fear Release Meditation
- Go to a quiet room, close your eyes and breathe slowly until your mind settles.
- Take yourself to your happy place, somewhere beautiful and peaceful, and simply enjoy being there.
- Visualize your fears floating away like clouds of smoke drifting on a gentle breeze.
- Breathe in courage and purity. Breathe out fear.
- Imagine your life with your fear released. See yourself having achieved your dreams with courage and ease.
- Feel the joy and pride of that moment, and let it energize you.
Practiced daily, this meditation makes fear easier to master, because you are choosing a peaceful heart over a stirred soul.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you release fear spiritually?
Reconnect with your Inner Divine Self, speak invocations with full feeling, meditate daily, release fear from your body through breath and movement, and take small brave steps. Dr. Isis Jade teaches that fear loosens as you return to delight and to your own wholeness.
What does F.E.A.R. stand for?
A popular acronym says FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. It reminds you that much of what you fear is imagined, even though the feeling itself is real.
What is the spiritual root cause of fear?
In Dr. Isis Jade’s teaching, fear grows from a sense of separation from your Inner Divine Self and from Source. Reconnecting with that part of you restores your sense of safety and power.
How do I release fear from my body?
Breathe slowly and deeply, move your body, use your voice, ground yourself and do something you love. These practices discharge the physical energy of fear.
How do I stop being afraid of everything?
Start small. Name each fear, ask whether it is real right now, practice daily meditation and invocations, and face one small fear at a time. Courage grows with every step. If fear feels constant or overwhelming, a licensed professional can offer support alongside this work.
Can fear become a motivator?
Yes. When fear is met with love and released, its energy can fuel courage and action. Dr. Isis Jade describes herself as living proof of this transformation.
Why do I feel scared all the time?
Constant fear often comes from a nervous system that has learned to stay on alert, along with years of practicing worry. Gentle daily practices that return you to safety and delight can soften it. If fear feels constant or overwhelming, please reach out to a licensed professional for support.
Is worrying a habit?
Yes. Every time you rehearse a fearful “what if,” you strengthen it. You can replace the habit by practicing new questions, such as “what if it goes beautifully?”, and redirecting that energy into action and joy.
How do I stop worst case scenario thinking?
Stack the odds in your favor, create a simple recovery plan and weigh the risk against the reward. Once you have a plan, the mind has less reason to keep spinning.
Can you overcome fear completely?
Fear is a natural human feeling, and it will visit from time to time. What changes is its hold over you. With practice, you notice fear sooner, release it faster and act anyway.
