You have heard it a hundred times. In books, in meditation apps, in talks with millions of views. You are not your thoughts. And you nodded, because it felt true. Then you closed the book and sat there wondering: fine, then what am I?
That question deserves a real answer, my sister. “You are not your thoughts” is half a teaching. It clears the room and then leaves it empty. Today I want to fill that room with the truth of who you are, because the second half is where your power lives.
Watch the full teaching above, then stay with me here. I want to give you the half nobody gave you.
Why “You Are Not Your Thoughts” Leaves You Hanging
The popular version goes like this. Your thoughts come and go. You are the one who watches them. Step back, observe, let them pass like clouds.
That is a useful first step. It gives you a little space between you and the noise.
And then the teaching stops. You are left as a quiet observer, sitting in the back row of your own life, watching thoughts drift by. Peaceful for a moment. Powerless for the rest of the day.
Observing your thoughts is a doorway. Nobody told you to walk through it.
You Are the Delight That Creates Worlds
Here is what you actually are.
The universe delighted itself into being. That is the Law of Delight, the first universal law, the law that rules all 777 laws I have documented in my Universal Codex. Delight is the primordial catalyst, the original creative spark.
You are made of that spark. You are the delight that creates worlds.
Your thoughts are tools. Your feelings are messengers. Underneath both is a creative presence, unique as your thumbprint, that has been shaping your reality since the day you arrived.
Ancient teaching describes the universe as living consciousness, and I explore that in the Law of Mentalism. The deepest layer of that consciousness is delight. When you rest there, you rest in the very source the universe creates from.
Your heart is your direct line to it. Your heart is 10,000 times more powerful than your mind. I call living from it heartset. Your mind thinks. Your heart knows. If you want to see why the heart leads and the mind follows, read do feelings come before thoughts.
Every Baby Arrives Knowing This
Think about a newborn for a moment.
Fully alive. Wildly expressive. Completely present. Totally unapologetic. A baby cries when it wants something and laughs until it hiccups when something delights it. It never asks whether it deserves to be loved. It never checks whether its joy is too much.
Every one of us arrived that way. Including you.
You were born with unlimited creative power. Nobody had to teach it to you. It was simply there, shining out of you in every gurgle and every grab for the light.
Then life began to teach you other things. Be quiet. Be good. Do not take up so much space. Want less. Over time, those lessons became thoughts, and those thoughts became the voice you mistook for yourself.
Here is the truth I want you to hold tonight. That baby is still you. Underneath everything you learned, the fully alive, expressive, present, unapologetic creator is intact. Nothing happened to you that could erase it. This is the heart of inner child healing: you return to the one who never left.
The Layers Over the Light
So where did all that creative power go? Nowhere. It got covered.
Trauma, limiting beliefs and programming settle over your delight like layers of dust on a lamp. The lamp is still lit. The light just has a harder time getting through.
The voice that speaks through those layers is what I call your Tiny Mind. It is the ego, shaped by fear, and its whole job is to keep you safe by keeping you small. Beneath it lives your Giant’s Heart: your soul, your delight and your mission, all still whole.
The Tiny Mind repeats itself. That repetition is a big reason the same thoughts feel so convincing. I call the deepest form of it Negative Energy Addiction: the familiar painful feeling registers as home, so your mind keeps returning to it.
Here is the wonder in all of this. Layers come off. Every layer you clear lets more of the original light shine through, and the original light is you. Transformation is the art of becoming a clear channel for the delight you already are.
You Are Not Your Thoughts, and Here Is How to Live Like It
Knowing this changes how you meet every part of your day.
When an old thought says “you are not good with money,” you recognize it as a lesson someone handed you. You thank it for trying to protect you, and you return to your heart. What does the creator in you desire with money today?
When a thought says “nobody will love the real you,” you remember the baby who never questioned being lovable. You let yourself be seen.
When a thought says “your dream is too big,” you remember that you are the delight that creates worlds. A dream is a world asking to be created. Who better to create it?
And in the small everyday moments, the shift is just as real. Washing dishes, waiting in line, driving home. Each one becomes a chance to come back from the stream of thoughts into the creator who is having them. You breathe, you feel your heart, and you remember: I am here, and I am the one creating this day.
Your sense of self shapes everything you create. I go further into this in self-concept manifestation, because the moment your self-concept shifts from “I am my thoughts” to “I am creative delight,” your results shift with it.
This is also the root of divine feminine energy. The divine feminine is creation itself, flowing, generous and fully alive. You are a creatrix. You delight yourself, and you hold what you create.
A Practice: Meet the One You Were Born As
Give yourself ten quiet minutes for this. A childhood photo is lovely if you have one. Your imagination is enough if you do not.
- Look at the little one. Hold a photo of yourself as a baby or young child, or picture that child clearly. Notice the eyes. Notice how open that face is.
- Name what you see. Write down four words: alive, expressive, present, unapologetic. Beside each, write one way that child showed it.
- Notice the thought that arrives. Some thought will try to argue. Let it speak. Write it down. Then write beside it: “This is a lesson I learned. It is not who I am.”
- Return to your heart. Bring your attention to your heart and ask: “What does the creator in me want to express today?”
- Express one thing, fully. Sing in the car. Dance in the kitchen. Say the true thing. Make the thing. Do one act today the way that baby would: wholeheartedly, with zero apology.
Repeat this whenever the old voice gets loud. Each time you meet the one you were born as, the thoughts lose their throne, and the creator takes its seat again.
Questions You May Be Asking
If I am not my thoughts, then what am I?
You are the delight that creates worlds. You are made of the same primordial delight that sparked the universe into being, and you arrived with unlimited creative power. Your thoughts and feelings are tools and messengers that move through that creative presence.
Who is the observer of my thoughts?
The observer is the doorway into your deeper self. Walk through it and you find your heart, your soul and the creative delight that has been shaping your life all along. The observer watches. The creator in you acts.
How do I stop identifying with my thoughts?
Name the source of a thought when it arrives: a parent, a teacher, an old hurt. Then return your attention to your heart and ask what you truly desire. Each time you do this, your identity moves from the noise to the creator beneath it.
Are my thoughts real?
Your thoughts are real as events, and they carry creative weight when your heart agrees with them. Many of them are inherited patterns that feel true from repetition. The real question is which ones serve the creator you are, and the universal laws show you how each one shapes your reality.
Back to the Empty Room
Remember that room the old teaching cleared and left empty?
It was never empty. It was full of you. Fully alive, wildly expressive, completely present, totally unapologetic. The baby who laughed until it hiccupped. The creator who never needed permission.
Walk back in. Take your seat. If you want a voice in your ear while you do, my episode Create a Divine Life carries this remembering beautifully.
