Picture yourself at a piano, pressing the same key over and over for years, wondering why the whole song never plays. That is what a life pattern feels like from the inside. If you are searching for how to break patterns in life, I know that sound, my sister, and I know how tiring it gets.
Here is the part that surprises people. The women who feel this most are often the most accomplished women I know. They cracked one area of life completely. Career, money, motherhood, influence. And one other area stays stuck no matter what they try. Learning how to break patterns in life starts with seeing why.
Watch the full teaching above, then stay with me here, because I want to show you the root and the practice that sets the whole song free.
The Pattern Every High Achiever Shares
Look at the most successful people you can think of. Leaders, performers, athletes, founders. So many of them carry the same story. Wild success in one area of life, and a quiet, repeating struggle in another.
The billion-dollar empire and the string of painful relationships. The championship career and the money that keeps slipping away. The radiant public life and the private loneliness.
You know this pattern because you live a version of it. You are brilliant at something. You have proven, many times over, that you can create results. And then there is that one area. Love. Money. Health. Family. Rest. The one place where your gifts seem to switch off.
And because you are a high achiever, you do what high achievers do. You try harder. You read more. You hire more experts. You press the same key, harder this time.
Why the Same Key Never Plays the Whole Song
Effort plays one note. A song needs the whole keyboard.
In the area where you thrive, you are playing from delight. You love it. You lose track of time inside it. Your Giant’s Heart, your soul, your delight and your mission, leads the way, and your mind follows happily.
In the stuck area, something else is at the keys. Your Tiny Mind, the ego shaped by fear, has taken the bench. It plays the one note it learned long ago, the note that once kept you safe. It plays it with great determination. It plays it on repeat.
I call the engine of this repetition Negative Energy Addiction. The familiar feeling, even a painful one, registers as home. So your life keeps steering you back into the same scene with a new cast.
The Root: One Layer Over One Room
So here is the root as I teach it. Every time, it comes back to the same place.
Somewhere along the way, one area of your life got covered by a layer. A painful experience, a belief you absorbed, a script you watched the adults around you play out. That layer sits over your natural delight in that one room of your life, and only that room.
The delight is still there. It is unique as your thumbprint, and it has never gone anywhere. The universe delighted itself into being, and that same primordial delight lives in every area of your life. This is the Law of Delight, the first universal law. In your thriving areas, it flows freely. In the stuck area, it is waiting under a layer.
This is also why the stuck area so often carries a hidden part of you. The fear, the grief, the anger you learned to keep quiet. Bringing that part home is the art of loving your shadow self, and it changes everything about the pattern.
And it explains why you sometimes undo your own progress right at the edge of a breakthrough. I unpack that in how to stop self sabotage: the sabotage is the layer protecting itself.
How to Break Patterns in Life From the Root
Patterns break when the layer comes off. And the layer comes off when you meet it with your heart.
Your heart is 10,000 times more powerful than your mind. I call living from it heartset. When you bring heartset to the stuck room, your Tiny Mind loses the bench, and your Giant’s Heart sits down to play.
There is an ancient truth beneath this. Energy is always moving and always able to change form. That is the Law of Perpetual Transmutation: the exact energy locked in your pattern is the energy that becomes your breakthrough.
And opposites carry each other. The depth of your stuckness reveals the size of what is ready to open. The Law of Polarity shows you why your most stubborn pattern often sits right beside your greatest gift.
Here is what breaking the pattern looks like in real life.
In love, you notice the exact moment your old note starts to play, and you choose a new one. In money, you discover the old vow you made as a child about what money costs, and you release it, and your revenue begins to hold. In rest, you finally let a quiet afternoon hold you, and your creativity comes rushing back.
Each of these shifts begins with the same move: you stop pressing harder and start listening deeper.
Give the Stuck Room a Mission
There is one more piece, and it is the one high achievers most often skip in the stuck area.
Mission comes first. Alignment needs something to align to. In your thriving room, you know exactly what you are creating. You can see it, name it and measure it. In the stuck room, the goal is usually fuzzy. “I want things to be better.” “I want to stop feeling this way.”
Your heart cannot play toward a fog.
So get specific, the same way you would for a launch or a promotion. Who exactly do you want beside you? How much money, by when, flowing from what? What does a rested Tuesday look like, hour by hour? The first step of the DELIGHT Roadmap is Decide Your Dreams and Desires, your Mission I’mPossible, and it belongs in every room of your life.
The moment the stuck room has a clear, delicious mission, your Giant’s Heart has something to play toward. And it plays beautifully.
A Practice to Break Patterns in Life: Find the Silent Keys
Give yourself twenty minutes and a notebook for this. Treat it as a discovery, with curiosity and wonder.
- Name your thriving room. Write the area of your life where you shine. Then write three words for how it feels to be there. Free, alive, playful, certain.
- Name your stuck room. Write the area that keeps repeating. Then write three words for how it feels. Tight, heavy, anxious, familiar.
- Find the one note. Ask: “What do I keep doing here, harder and harder?” Write the key you keep pressing. Overgiving, overworking, overthinking, waiting.
- Find the first time. Ask your heart: “When did I first learn to play this note?” Let a memory or an image come. Write it down without judging it.
- Carry the delight across. Return to your three thriving words. Ask: “How would I show up in my stuck room if I felt free, alive, playful and certain there?” Write one small action.
- Play a new key today. Take that one action today. Then celebrate it, fully. Delight sealed in celebration becomes the new pattern.
Repeat this weekly. The stuck room opens quickly once delight is allowed in. If the pattern is rooted in fear, read my teaching on how to stop living in fear next.
Questions You May Be Asking
How do I break a pattern in my life?
Find the root layer underneath the pattern and meet it with your heart. Notice what you keep doing harder in that area, trace when you first learned it, and then bring the delight from your thriving areas into the stuck one with one small, new action.
Why do I keep repeating the same patterns?
Patterns repeat because the familiar feeling registers as home, even when it hurts. I call this Negative Energy Addiction. Your Tiny Mind replays what it knows until your heart leads with something new.
Why am I successful in one area of life and stuck in another?
In your thriving areas, delight flows freely and your heart leads. In the stuck area, a layer from an early experience or belief sits over your delight. The power is fully present in both. One room simply has a layer to clear.
How long does it take to break a pattern?
Patterns that took decades to form often loosen quickly once you find the root. Some shift in a single session, others unwind over a few weeks of daily practice. If your patterns live in your energy, my piece on energy blocks shows you the one shift that moves them.
The Whole Song
Go back to that piano. Your hand is still on the same key.
Now lift it. Feel the whole keyboard spread out in front of you, every note available, every one of them yours. The song was always there. You were simply playing one note of it.
When you are ready to walk through all seven steps of becoming that whole song, my 7-step DELIGHT Pathway lays out the path from your first desire to Total Transformation.
