How to Reset Your Life: Control, Alternate, Delete and Begin Again

How to Reset Your Life: Control, Alternate, Delete and Begin Again

Sometimes life feels like a computer that has frozen. Too many programs running, nothing responding, the same error message popping up over and over. When you reach that point, small tweaks won’t do. You need a hard reset. Learning how to reset your life means pausing everything, seeing clearly what is running you, and choosing fresh from your heart.

In Brief
How do I completely reset my life?
Pause and assess every area of your life, take control of what you can, try new alternatives, delete what drains you, ask who you are and who you want to become, and design your ideal life. Dr. Isis Jade calls this the Control Alt Delete method.

This guide comes from the chapters “Control Alt Delete Your Life,” “Create a New Divine Life Now” and “Paradigm Crash” in my book Your Mission I’mPossible. You will learn the signs you need a reset, my Control Alt Delete method, the three questions that rewrite a life, how to escape Someday Island, a seven-day reset plan, how to reset your life spiritually and practices to begin today.

What Does It Mean to Reset Your Life?

Resetting your life means stepping out of autopilot, clearing out what no longer serves you and consciously choosing a new direction. It can be a dramatic overhaul or a series of focused shifts. Either way, it begins inside: with how you think, feel and choose.

In my teaching, the outer world reflects your inner world. Trying to force people and circumstances to change rarely works. A true reset begins when you pause and pay attention to the inner programs running your life.

Signs You Might Need to Restart Your Life

  • You work hard and see little traction, joy or happiness.
  • The goals you set years ago no longer fit who you are.
  • You reached your goals and realized they were not what you wanted.
  • Your days blur together on autopilot.
  • You keep repeating the same patterns, relationships or problems.
  • You feel like a stranger in your own life.
  • You catch yourself saying “someday” about everything that matters.

Control Alt Delete Your Life

We often set our goals when our energy and excitement are at an all-time high. Then life shifts. Sometimes we reach the goal and discover it was never what we truly wanted. When that happens, it may be time for a Control Alt Delete: a hard reset of the programs running in your mind.

Just like a computer, there was a point in time when each program was downloaded into your subconscious, and it has been running ceaselessly ever since. Here is how to reset it.

Control

Ask: what can I control in order to enhance my life? You cannot change your genetics, your birth family or every event around you. Almost everything else is your show. How you spend your time, how you respond, what you focus on and what you choose are yours.

The flip side of control is responsibility. That can feel scary, and even sad, when you see how much you held back in the past. The sooner you take the keyboard of your life back into your own hands, the sooner your life gets back on track. You own your time. Time does not own you.

Alternate

Ask: what can I do differently? There are always alternatives: in how you behave, what you believe, how you work and who you love. Here is a question I love: when was the last time you did something for the first time? Choosing a new alternative, even a small one, breaks the trance of routine.

Delete

Ask: what am I putting up with that I don’t have to? Often we tolerate habits, situations and patterns that drain us. Sometimes delete means removing something. Sometimes it means forgiving yourself or someone else. Like outdated software that slows every process, old guilt and resentment slow your whole life. You have the power to delete bad files and overwrite them with something better.

The Three Questions That Rewrite a Life

After my abduction and escape, my life shattered into a million pieces. For years, nothing seemed to heal me. I searched everywhere for answers before realizing they needed to come from within, from my heart.

When I finally decided to create a new vision of myself and my life, I asked three questions:

  1. Who am I?
  2. Who do I want to become?
  3. What do I want to contribute to the world?

Those questions became the foundation of my reset. I determined my ideal life, my personal principles and my mission, and I began creating a new reality one circumstance at a time.

The Paradigm Crash

One of the most powerful moments of my healing came when I realized I had a choice in how I felt about what I had lived through. Up until then, I believed my feelings were caused entirely by other people. That was how I was raised. The realization that I could choose how I felt was a paradigm crash for me.

A paradigm crash is the moment an old belief system breaks open, and your heart self breaks through the pattern your mind set up. Step by step, I began working on how I felt about each past event where I placed blame on myself or anyone else. Every time I noticed an old program running, I reminded myself to come back to my heart. It took practice, and it changed everything.

This never means what happened to you was acceptable or your fault. It means you hold the power to choose how you carry it forward. Read You Did Not Create Everything That Happened to You.

Create Your Determined Ideal Life

Your determined ideal life is a clear, three-dimensional, moving picture you hold in your mind’s eye and your heart: who you really are, how you want to live and the perfect life flow for your wellbeing. Without it, your life energy scatters into insignificant tasks, adding up to busyness that goes nowhere.

With it, your daily decisions become more meaningful, manageable and enjoyable. When things slip off balance, you have a picture to return to.

Reset the Rules You Inherited

In Your Mission I’mPossible I write that most people grow up doing what their parents did. Many of us follow a script without ever questioning it: work hard for money, go to school for a career, get good grades, get a steady job, buy a car, buy a house, establish credit, buy more stuff, save for retirement and finally get serious about the future.

There is nothing wrong with any single step. The problem comes when we live the entire script on autopilot, never asking whether it fits our heart. A true reset includes looking at the script you inherited and choosing which parts to keep, rewrite or release.

Ask: whose life am I living? Which of my goals did I choose, and which did I absorb? What would I choose if no one else had an opinion? You make the rules for your life. Nobody else does, unless you hand them that power.

Why Most Resets Fade

Many resets begin with a burst of energy and fade within weeks. That usually happens when the outer scenery changes and the inner programs stay the same. The same thoughts, beliefs and emotional habits recreate the same life in a new setting.

This is why the Control Alt Delete method begins inside. When you change how you think, feel and choose, the outer changes hold. Return to your heart every time you notice an old program running, and your reset becomes a new way of living.

Escape Someday Island

Most people spend their whole lives on a boring little island called Someday. Someday I’ll be happy. Someday I’ll travel. Someday I’ll write the book, start the business, take the photo of a lion in Africa.

Life begins when you say it does. Life is here, now, marching on with you or without you. A reset means leaving Someday Island and choosing today.

How to Reset Your Life Spiritually

Return to your heart

Your heart is your connection to the Universe and your inner compass. Begin each day with a few minutes of stillness, hand on heart, asking what it wants. Read how to listen to your heart.

Release the past

Choose each day to release old stories and resentments. Read how to let go of the past.

Realign with delight

Delight is the fastest way back to your true core vibration. Choose one delight a day and feel it fully.

Step onto a new path

Every moment of now offers a new trajectory. Explore how to shift timelines.

Resetting Each Area of Your Life

Relationships

Notice which relationships nourish you and which drain you. Control what you can: your boundaries, your honesty, your presence. Try an alternate approach to a recurring conflict. Delete old grudges through forgiveness, for your own freedom.

Work

Ask whether your work still fits who you are becoming. Take control of one part of your workday. Try a new approach to a stuck project. Delete one task that drains you by delegating, automating or letting it go.

Money

Look at your money story with curiosity. Take control of one financial habit. Try an alternate belief, such as money as an energy that flows through you. Delete one expense or pattern that no longer serves you. Read money blocks.

Health and energy

Your body regenerates itself constantly. Choose one nourishing habit to add and one draining habit to release. Small daily choices create a new baseline of vitality.

Home

Your space reflects your inner life. Clear one drawer, one corner, one room. Make one space feel like the life you are creating.

Life Can Change in the Blink of an Eye

Small transformations take time. Look at any tree: growth takes energy, time and faith. And yet huge, sweeping changes can also happen in an instant, through a single decision. In my book I write that all you have to do is believe it can.

A reset holds both. The decision happens in a moment. The new life unfolds through steady daily steps. Honor both, and be patient with the tree while you celebrate the moment you chose to plant it.

Is Life Questioning You?

It is usually in the middle of a crisis or major transition that we finally let go of the petty conflicts, the need to control every outcome and the effort to keep up appearances. We realize every moment is a precious gift and wonder why we have been wasting so much of it.

In times like these, stop everything and reassess your priorities and principles. Let go of what you think people want you to be and align with who you truly are. If you truly want to live, you have to be who you are. That is the heart of every real reset.

A Seven-Day Life Reset

Day one: Pause. Clear an hour. Turn off your phone. Write down how you truly feel about every area of your life: health, love, work, money, home, joy.

Day two: Control. List what is within your control in each area. Choose one thing to take charge of this week.

Day three: Alternate. Do one thing for the first time. Take a new route, try a new food, read a book in place of a show.

Day four: Delete. Write your delete list: habits, tolerations and resentments. Remove or release one.

Day five: Ask the three questions. Who am I? Who do I want to become? What do I want to contribute? Write freely.

Day six: Design your ideal life. Describe an ideal ordinary day in rich sensory detail.

Day seven: Leave Someday Island. List five things you have been putting off. Take a small action on each one this week.

Practice One: Your Delete List

  1. Write at the top of a page: “What I am done putting up with.”
  2. List habits, situations, tolerations and old resentments.
  3. Next to each, write whether it needs removing, changing or forgiving.
  4. Choose the one that would bring the most relief.
  5. Take one action on it within forty-eight hours.

Practice Two: The Ideal Day Visualization

Close your eyes and imagine an average day in the life of your real self, your heart self. What are you doing? What do you smell, see, taste, hear and feel? Immerse yourself in every detail. Then open your eyes and write it all down. This picture becomes the blueprint for your reset.

Practice Three: The Someday Sweep

  1. Write every “someday” you can think of.
  2. Circle the five that make your heart leap.
  3. For each, write one small action you can take this week.
  4. Put those actions in your calendar.
  5. Celebrate each one as you complete it.

Common Mistakes When Resetting Your Life

  • Changing only the scenery. A new city or job works best when inner programs shift too.
  • Trying to change everything at once. Focused shifts create lasting change.
  • Skipping the delete step. Old resentments slow every new beginning.
  • Forcing others to change. Your reset is about you.
  • Waiting for Monday, New Year or the right moment. Today is the day.

Practice Four: The Determined Ideal Life Statement

  1. Write three short paragraphs: who you really are, how you want to live and the life flow that feels right for your wellbeing.
  2. Include each area: love, work, health, money, home, joy and contribution.
  3. Write in present tense, as if it is already true.
  4. Read it aloud and notice where your body feels the most excitement.
  5. Keep it where you will see it every morning.
  6. Each Sunday, ask: what one step this week brings me closer?

When things slip off balance, this statement brings you back to your center and reminds you what matters most.

A Reset Is an Act of Self-Love

Choosing to reset your life says, “I matter. My time matters. My joy matters.” It is one of the deepest forms of self-respect. You are choosing to stop living by default and start living by design. Your inner heart self has been waiting for exactly this moment, ready to unfold into your real life.

After the Reset

Resets are not one-time events. Life keeps changing, and you keep growing. Many people find it valuable to do a mini reset each season: a day to pause, review their ideal life statement, update their delete list and choose new alternatives. These seasonal resets keep you aligned and prevent the slow drift back into autopilot.
