How to find your purpose in life starts with the feeling of delight. Your purpose shows itself as the things that light you up so fully that time disappears, the problems you cannot stop caring about, and the gifts that flow out of you with ease. Follow your delight, notice where it keeps leading, and name it with specifics: who you serve, what you create, and what changes because you showed up.
Purpose can sound enormous, like a single answer carved in stone that you must find or fail. Let me offer you something softer and truer.
Your purpose is already living in you, dear one. It hums under your days. It shows up every time you feel most like yourself.
Purpose Feels Like Delight
Think about a moment when you felt completely alive. Fully present, a little bit amazed, lit from the inside. What were you doing? Who were you with? Who did it serve?
That feeling is the fingerprint of purpose.
Delight is the soul’s natural inner resonance, as unique as your thumbprint. It rises when you are doing what you came here to do. It is your compass, and it is remarkably reliable.
The universe delighted itself into being. Delight is the primordial catalyst of creation. So it makes sense that your purpose, the part you came here to play in creation, would feel like delight when you touch it.
Many people look for purpose through logic. They list their skills, scan job titles, and analyze what the market needs. Those questions have their place. And the deepest answers come through the Giant’s Heart, the part of you that holds your soul, your delight and your mission. Your heart is 10,000 times more powerful than your mind, and it already knows.
Forty Days of Silence
I found my own purpose in silence.
For forty days, I stopped speaking. I listened. In that quiet, the teaching I now call the Law of Delight came through me, and I wrote my first book, Delight: An Enlightened Path to Transforming Your Life Spontaneously, within that same period.
What struck me most was how familiar it felt. The purpose that came through was something I had been circling my whole life. Every book I had studied, every hard season I had lived through, every moment of joy I had protected, had been pointing at it.
Silence simply turned down the noise enough for me to hear it.
Try it this week. Choose one evening. Turn off your phone, skip the music, and sit or walk in quiet for forty minutes. Before you begin, ask your heart one question: “What did I come here to give?” Then let it be. Write down whatever surfaces afterward, even if it seems small or strange. Small and strange is often exactly how purpose first introduces itself.
You do not need forty days. You may need forty minutes. What matters is that you give your heart a quiet room to speak in. Purpose speaks softly, and it speaks constantly.
Purpose and Mission: Who You Are and What You Create
I use two words with clients, and the distinction sets many people free.
Your purpose is who you are here to be. The essence you carry. Healer, teacher, creator of beauty, keeper of truth, bringer of joy. It shows up everywhere, in your work, your friendships, your parenting, your play.
Your mission is what you are here to create. That essence aimed at specific people for a specific result. I call it your Mission I’mPossible, because it feels impossible to the Tiny Mind and completely natural to the soul.
Purpose answers “Who am I?” Mission answers “Who is waiting for me?”
When you know both, your life gains direction and depth at the same time. I write about the mission side in detail in soul mission, and about your soul purpose in how to find your soul purpose.
How to Find Your Purpose in Life: Read the Clues Your Soul Leaves
Your soul has been leaving clues for you since you were small. Here is where to look.
What you loved before anyone told you what to love
Childhood delights carry pure purpose energy. The games you invented, the roles you played, the things you did for hours without being asked. Look past the activity to the essence. Organizing the neighborhood play was leadership. Rescuing every injured bird was healing.
What makes time disappear
When you are in your purpose, hours pass like minutes. Notice what does that for you now, even in small ways.
What breaks your heart
The problems you cannot stop caring about are pointers. The injustice that keeps you up at night, the pain you recognize in others because you lived it. Your purpose often lives exactly where your compassion is strongest.
What people already come to you for
Friends call you for a reason. Notice what they ask for. Advice, comfort, a plan, a laugh, a fresh idea. Others often see your purpose before you do.
What you have walked through
Your hardest experiences shaped gifts in you. Many people find that their purpose includes offering others the very medicine they once needed.
A Practice: The Purpose Sentence
The most powerful tool I know for purpose is specificity. Aspirational language feels good and goes nowhere. Specific language lands in the body and starts to move.
- Gather your clues. Spend fifteen minutes writing answers to the five clues above. Write fast and freely.
- Circle the delight. Read your answers and circle the words that make your chest lift.
- Name who. Who exactly do you long to serve? Be specific. “People” is too wide. “Women leaving long marriages,” “first-generation founders,” “kids who feel invisible” are specific.
- Name what. What exactly do you create or offer them? Name a real, tangible thing.
- Name the change. What changes in their lives because of you? How would you see it or measure it?
- Write the sentence. “I am here to [who you are] by [what you create] for [who you serve] so that [the change].” Read it aloud. Refine it until your body says yes.
Here is how a sentence can sharpen. “I want people to heal” is a beautiful wish with no address. “I am here to be a calm presence by teaching breath and movement to new parents who feel overwhelmed, so that they sleep better and enjoy their babies” has an address. You can feel it. You can picture the first person it serves. That is when purpose starts to move.
Your sentence will grow over time. That is part of its beauty. Write the truest version you can today and let it evolve.

Why Finding Your Purpose Matters So Much
Purpose is the anchor for everything else you create. In the DELIGHT Roadmap, the first step is Decide Your Dreams and Desires, and it maps directly to your Mission I’mPossible. The soul’s mission comes first, because alignment needs something to align to.
When you know your purpose, your desires make sense. Your choices get simpler. Your energy stops scattering. And the Law of Delight can move through you with full force: “Delight yourself fully in life and you will be given the desires of your heart.”
I have seen purpose change lives quickly. Randi went from employee to owner of Sacramento Belly Fit after one private session with me. A purpose that had been waiting quietly inside her suddenly had a name and a direction, and she stepped into it.

What to do when you find it
Begin small and begin now. Purpose grows through expression.
Take one action this week that expresses your purpose sentence. One conversation, one offering, one creation shared. Notice the delight. Then take another.
Share what you discover. A delight shared is a delight squared, and it comes back to you ten thousand fold. Purpose that is shared calls in the people, the opportunities and the support it needs.
Let your purpose live in ordinary places too. It belongs in how you speak to the cashier, how you show up for a friend, how you spend a free Saturday. Purpose expressed in small moments becomes strong enough to carry big ones.
And expect your Tiny Mind to wave some warning flags. Fear of being seen, fear of failing, fear of succeeding. Those are normal. They are layers, and layers clear.
